Flathead River

Well folks it’s that time of year when our local Flathead River is in transition. It will be moving in and out of good fishing condition until probably June… We monitor the flows of the river and the color and clarity of the water. Currently, the flows are on the drop and the green color is back! These cold nights keep the snowpack sticking in the mountains and slow everything down. Until we get another couple of warmer days strung together or a big rain storm, the Flathead River should fish! Well for a bit anyway until the big push.

Our high mountain snowpack is still hovering around 70% subpar for sure, but there will still be a decent runoff. So it’s time to head over to the Missouri River. We have been here for a few days now and will be camped out until the end of June. The midge activity has been over the top these last few days, mixed in with some good blue-wing hatches as well. We nymphed most the day yesterday and stopped and target fished heads after lunch. The fish are super fun on top right now if they present themselves…they have not seen many dry flys yet…so even the modest angler has a great chance of securing a dry fly Missouri river brown trout!

Call for some other sneaky stream info! We still got some time before the big runoff so get out while the getting is good. We would love to get you out on a guide trip call and mention this post for a spring special.

Thank you and tight lines!

We also offer half and full-day trips on both Whitefish Lake and Flathead Lake mainly for lake trout. We are having success bouncing a 3-inch white tub jig off the bottom.
