Flathead Lake between Somers and Polson, Montana

Just outside of Kalispell city limits sits the largest freshwater lake on this side of the Mississippi. This crystal-clear lake reaches depths of 350 feet in some places. The ecosystem of Flathead Lake is perfect for the lake trout also known as mackinaw. You could be watching the sun peak over the Swan Range with the wind in your face this summer as you search the depths for a jumbo lake trout.

 Whitefish lake guided fishing trips

When you launch from the dock at Whitefish Lake State Park, you drive straight to Big Mountain and the home of Whitefish Mountain Resort. The ski runs are visible as a dirt track for mountain bikers in the summer. Whitefish Lake runs about 5 miles long and a mile and a half across. It reaches depths of 233 ft in some spots and remains cool through the heat of summer. Lake trout, whitefish, and northern pike are the target species varying on the time of year.
