BOOK YOUR MONTANA FISHING TRIP HERE

Winter is coming

The season up here in Montana is changing rapidly. The temperature is starting to drop, all the leaves have finally fallen off the trees, and hunting season is nearing the end. Obviously, the overall fishing pressure has slowed down with temps but there is still plenty of fish around. If you are visiting the Flathead Valley this time of year or up for the holidays, now is the perfect time to get out on the river or lake for a guided fishing trip. We are still floating the Flathead River, with a later start time since the fishing for trout is best during the warmest part of the day for you and the fish. Believe it or not, we spotted some fish eating dry flies on our last trip out, but your best chance is still deep nymphing. With cooler water temps the Cutthroat and Rainbows like to hold in the big, slow, deep, holes and eat anything pink. We have also been using Pheasant tail jigs and of course SJWs. If you are a streamer junkie, they are also a great choice for this time of year. For lake fishing, we have been out on Whitefish Lake jigging for Lake trout. Find where the fish are and drop your weighted jig head with a chunk of bait to the bottom and jig softly trying to stand upright in the mud, when you feel a hit set the hook!
