Hello fishy friends. The end of the summer is near! Our favorite time of year is just around the corner, fall fishing is almost here! Even with the recent heat conditions here locally on the Flathead, we have managed to have some active dry fly fishing. Terrestrials have been the name of the game: ants, beetles, and hoppers. Of course, your favorite mayfly pattern will work too.
Clark Fork also has held in there during the heat. The hopper/dropper game has been above average for this time of year. Girdle Bugs are working as usual–ABG(always be girdlin’), tungsten bead pheasant tails have also been a good choice. Personally, I have been switching to a size 14 parachute mayfly pattern after lunch and consistently having more than our fair share of nice fish willing to eat the fly. The Clark Fork has been an incredible option all summer and will only get better as we transition into fall.
We have been on the Blackfoot multiple days this last week. With a smart fly choice and an early launch time, the fishing has been more than rewarding! we have been having great success! Dry dropper has also been consistent, but even a solo grasshopper also will work with plenty of fish looking up. If you like the feeling of casting a small dry and hitting specific seams and riffles, both mayfly patterns and small ant patterns have been working.
Give us a call or email, we would love to get you out on the water! THANK YOU!
