brown trout missouri river

Early May fishing report

MAY 6, 2021

As of now, our big local river, the Flathead has blown out. She has leveled out a bit, but still running dirty. We will get a few more opportunities for floating and fishing, but from now until the end of June she is gone.

**Give us a call or check the flows daily for windows of great fishing**

In this runoff season, stillwater fly fishing is our main game around the Flathead Valley. We have been very successful fishing both scud and balanced leech patterns size 8-12  under an indicator. Hard hook sets are rewarded with the chance of a scrappy rainbow!

Right now, the best option is to head East over the mountains and come see us on the Missouri River. Just 3 hrs from Kalispell you can be smack dab in the middle of the best spring fishing in the state!  Most of the rainbows have put the spawn behind them and are acting like it! Moving for the fly and ripping you apart when you hook up! These fish are hott!! We are seeing daily hatches of BWO’s and Baetis. Not too many fish looking up just yet.. but if hunting heads is your game you can find some targets with persistence and some good vibes to call them in. A couple of tics in water temp and we will start to see March browns coming off and should have a great window of dry fly fishing.

Thanks to everyone who has been out with us! Until next time…
