Missouri River Brown Trout

2021 Spring fishing in Northwest Montana

APRIL 19, 2021

The Flathead River has been a great option for fishing local this month. Excluding a few days, the water flows have stayed decent and fishing has been great for nymphing. There has also been some excellent dry fly fishing when the temps warm up under the high sun!

For those that enjoy still water fishing or for the days when the inevitable spring thaw hits the river, our private water (40-acre mountain lake) is a great spot for some fat Rainbows! We have been getting lots of chances for these big Kamloops on balanced leeches and scuds under an indicator and/or trolling off the drift boat with a sinking line. A great spring option!

The Missouri River is where a big percentage of our spring trips are happening at the moment.  Consistent nymphing (tailwater sow and pill popper) being the main players so far. But dry fly guys, we are starting to see Blue Wing pop off under the right conditions. A couple of tics up in water temperature and we should have a great window of afternoon topwater action!

We are in for a BUSY summer season folks and now is the best time to get out on the water! CHEERS!
