Missouri River

East of the mountains on the Missouri River. The fishing has been really fun! Nymphing still being the most productive. On those warmer days, there has been a great opportunity for some dry fly fish with the midge making a strong appearance. If you can find a consistent fish you can catch him this time of year!!

We would love to get you out for a winter trip. Call about our spring specials!

Flathead River

Our local Flathead River has been fishing above average this winter! Maybe it’s been the mild winter or maybe we are in a good population cycle, or both. Either way, we are loving it!

Honestly winter into early spring is probably our favorite time to fish the mighty Flathead. You can have the river to yourself on lots of days. The average fish size is a couple to a few inches bigger than what you see in the summer. On top of that, the quality is easier to find as well. Match all that with amazing snow-capped backgrounds and you just might be in for an amazing day!

That being said the fish are not everywhere this time of year. The winter holding water is typically deep slow runs if you can find a fish you can probably find multiple fish. Your best bet is going to be a fairly deep nymph rig.

Pink is your friend. If you’re tired of the old go-to pink stuff….(I get it) don’t be afraid to tie on your favorite jiggy may fly nymph or a stone. If you present it right, you will get eats!

A big brown sparkle bugger with a sink tip .. swing it, strip it back slow is always a good option this time of year. There are days they can’t stay away from it, and maybe on other days not so much. BUT even on the slower days you might get lucky and one of those early spring trophy native cutthroat just might appear and make your day with a great streamer WACK!!!

Lakes

We also offer half and full-day trips on both Whitefish Lake and Flathead Lake mainly for lake trout. We are having success bouncing a 3-inch white tub jig off the bottom.
