Flathead River Fishing Report
Happy New Year everyone!!!
We have started 2025 with a bang. We had trips out the 1st and 2nd. What a great time of year to get out on the water. Here is your January 2nd fishing report–
The fish are usually pretty willing and the crowds are virtually nonexistent. Also, getting a beautiful winter cutthroat picture with the majestic snow-covered peaks in the background is pretty awesome!
I know I always love the view this time of year anyway.
Generally speaking, we find most of our fish in deep slow runs this time of year. Although we did find a couple in the normal winter spots, (9-11 ft nymph rig) we also noticed good fish hanging in smaller buckets at the top of the hole.
A 6-foot nymph rig for those holes is about right.
Honestly, those smaller buckets produced our most quality fish. The fish ate the standard San Juan worm and a pink perdigon. We tried a big prince and another stone pattern. No luck there….
The warmest part of the day if you’re patient and know where to look you can catch one on top with a midge as well!
Take advantage of no crowds and the beautiful backdrop and book a half-day trip on the Flathead River!
