We managed to sneak out on the water just before this recent cold snap. No doubt there were some fresh migratory fish in the main stem. Here’s the January 21st fishing report for the main stem of the Flathead River!

Every fish we caught was quality. It was still a fairly cold day but the bite was happening where it should be in the winter holding water. The biggest thing we noted from our recent trip …. was the fish were skipping the winter pink patterns and going after the natural may fly jig stuff.

All our best fish ate a size #16 pt jig.

I’m sure there is some shelf ice building now, so be cautious out there when choosing your launch or takeout spot.. and even more careful for our trustee wade fishermen. Talk soon
