Flathead River
The second half of July felt more like a typical August. A lot of days in the high 90-degree range and pure sunshine. We are fortunate in the Flathead Valley to have cool mountain/glacier water that keeps our local Flathead at great temps for our native cutthroat.
The two rivers that we travel to this time of year, the Blackfoot and Clark Fork have been on hoot owl now for a couple weeks. This means no fishing after 2 p.m. But if you go early you can still put together some great days.
Spruce moths are starting to make an appearance on the Blackfoot!! That’s always a fun dry fly bite! The local Flathead is loving a small to mid-size MFC more or less hopper…. trail a little ant behind it and wait for ol orange 🍊 belly to rise up to the “hoppertunity”! All being said we are having good trips out daily.

Whitefish Lake
If your looking for something else to maybe give the river a break. Our lake boats have been doing great lately. The bite for the lakers on Flathead lake has been very consistent..everyone is catching fish. Also, we have had some great trips with kids going out on Whitefish Lake. They are catching both pike and perch..lots of action!! Anyway, we hope to hear from you or see you out there.

red & white flat fish.
Pete’s Tackle – gold & black wooly bugger.
